Daphne was a nymph, beautiful and free. She lived in the woods, by springs, waterfalls, and rivers. Apollo got infatuated and started chasing her against her wishes. She preferred being transformed into a laurel tree rather than accept this brutal love, becoming an eternal symbol of the fight against patriarchy and masculine toxicity.
